The BIOS in the Gateway Solo9300 CX notebook does not recognize the TEAC DW-224E CD-ROM drive described in "A Notebook Burner Upgrade" NWA-PCUG NEWSLETTER June 2003. The update functions normally under Windows9x and XP when there is a floppy drive present. The original Teac CD-224E must be replaced if one wishes to use a hard drive in the floppy drive bay and have a CD-ROM drive available as well.

One may purchase an adapter for the extra CD-ROM drive from Capitol Data, 800 - 999 4409. Gateway refuses to sell these adapters.
