Where Oh Where Did My Data Go!

Did you ever:
Rearrange your drives
Add a new drive
Add a new partition
Move your subdirectories
and find out your old applications will not work due to the fact that they can't find the data.

Here is a solution that I have found that works. I look in the directory of where the application is stored for a small file. One of those files there will have one or more references to the CD drive or directory where the data is located.

In some cases the name of the file will be xxx.CD in others DATA.xxx or some name that will allow you to make an intelligent guess. The size of these files is usually less than 2000 bytes

Once I find the file, I change all the references and restore the file. This has worked in all cases I have tried. Though I must admit I had to do a lot of searching to find the correct file in a couple of cases.
