Saturday, June 16, 2012 meeting at 1 p.m.: David Hinds, who is our V.P. and co-program Chairman, will demonstrate the Web located “Dropbox” You can get a good idea of what it is by going to the February NEWSLETTER. It is available on our Web site, PCGROUP.NWARK.COM (No www in front).

Attention Facebook users: If you do not use Facebook, I am sure that your wife, children, and grandchildren do use it. I recommend that you pick up the June 2012 issue of “Consumer Reports” magazine. Twelve pages are devoted to covering your privacy and how to protect it. Are there any family pictures posted? It is now possible with face recognition software to get a person’s identity by scanning their face! How will this be used in the future? According to Consumer Reports, “ Almost 16 million households have become victims of identity theft. Over the past year, up almost 50%”. Go to http://www.ConsumerReports.org/cro/facebookprivacy to find out how to protect yourself and family.

Check to See if Your Computer is Using Rogue DNS: We had an two outstanding presentations covering viruses by Robert Davis and a presentation by our Newsletter Editor, Bill Shook. Bill discussed the item listed on the front page of the May 2012 Newsletter, “FBI: Hundreds of Thousands of Computers May Lose Internet on July 9". This malware will send you to a malware site instead of the site you thought you were going to. I recommend you go to the Newsletter on our website and follow the instructions. You can check to see if your computer has the rogue DNS install by going to http://www.dns-ok.us/ . For more information from the FBI go to http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2011/november/malware_110911

We need more members to give a presentation. If you use or read about an application that you like, tell us about it ahead of the meeting so you will have time to prepare a presentation.

NWA PC-USER GROUP meetings are held at the NW Technical Institute on State Hwy 265 in Springdale. We have use of a room 119 located in the main building for the rest of 2012. Go to the back of the main building on the NE corner. Enter the NE door and go to the end of the hallway to reach room 119.
