Who should you go to solve your personal PC?
This question came up at the November meeting Q&A session. A person at the meeting told about a disaster inflicted on their computer by one of the big box fixer upper technician. Before hiring someone to fix your computer, look in the back of the our Newsletter for Internet help for fixing PC problems.

DigitalSupportTech.com site offers a collection of programs to test your PC for problems. This service is free. They will charge you $20 to fix your PC. If they can't fix it there is no charge.

Tip-Of-the Month (TOM): Do you use Wi-Fi on your home network? Be on guard because drive by ID thieves and hackers may be looking over your computer activity to get credit card and bank account data. Here is what you should do.

Shield your home wireless network with an encryption program. Use Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), which is stronger than Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). Turn off the feature that broadcasts the Service Set Identifier, or SSID, to non-network computers. Of course have the usual antivirus, antispyware software, and a firewall.
